2018 – The Year to Do the Right Thing in Healthcare

As the new year kicks off we wanted to take a moment to thank our team here at Unite Us, our partners, and supporters. 2017 was a year of tremendous growth at Unite Us and was a pivotal year in bringing the Social Determinants of Health to the table.

As many know, Unite Us started in 2013 with the goal of breaking down silos within the Veteran community in order to connect Veterans to the services they need and deserve. Soon thereafter we understood that the impact of the social infrastructure we were providing communities across the country and that it was not limited to the Veteran community. In fact we had already been addressing the Social Determinants of Health in an accountable and trackable way.

Value-Based Care: It’s the right thing to do

Regardless of policy changes we are seeing a transformation towards value-based care because it is the right thing to do. It just makes sense. We often say here at Unite Us that this is a movement, that communities across the country are choosing to do the right thing by addressing the whole person through cross-sector collaboration. They are doing this because not only does it save all sectors money but it is proving to be an effective way of improving health. In many conversations we have with new partners we say that there are really two choices you can make. The first being, are you looking to check a box by implementing a short term solution? Or are you looking to creating sustainable lasting change within your community? Today, we are seeing more and more leaders chose the sustainable long – term solution that involves commitment and engagement from all community partners.

A Reminder of Why We Are Doing This Work

Last week at Unite Us, we received an emotional success story that for privacy purposes we cannot reveal the details. But for all of us here it reminded us of why we are participating in this movement, why we are looking to transform our health and human service industry, and the reason is because we are in the business of helping people.

We know that many of you have these success stories and lives that you have impacted so we ask that as you start your new year to keep that front and center. For Unite Us, helping as many people as we can will drive us through 2018 and every year thereafter. With that, we want to thank you all for your service, dedication, and innovation. We value our partnerships with you and we look forward to developing new ones in the new year!
